STUDY DAYS ON UNIVERSAL ACCESSIBILITY IN FRENCH AND NORTH AMERICAN MUSEUMS

FRAME and the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rennes are co-organizing Study Days on Universal Accessibility in Museums in France and North America. The event will be held on December 9 and 10, 2025, at the Museum of Fine Arts in Rennes (Brittany) on site or remotely. Museum and culture professionals, disability and inclusion specialists, students, passionate about culture and inclusion: these days are for you!

A platform of discussion at a transatlantic level

The study days offer a platform of discussion to establish a dialogue between France, Quebec and the United States, via testimonials, panel discussions, and diverse experiences from the field in a comparative and collaborative approach. The goal is to broaden perspectives and better consider the place of visitors with disabilities, while reflecting on the diversity of audiences within museums.

The result of a long-term approach

This event is the result of the traveling exhibition L’Art et la Matière, an initiative from the Musée Fabre in Montpellier in partnership with the Musée du Louvre, in 2016.  Based on a multisensory approach to sculpture, this exhibition was imagined and designed in dialogue with visually impaired people. After touring several museums in the South-East France, this tactile gallery evolved within other museums in the FRAME network in Lyon, Rouen, Lille, Bordeaux, and Nantes under the title Prière de toucher! [Please Do Touch!] before reaching its final stop at the Museum of Fine Arts in Rennes from November 2024 to April 2025.

Practical Information

The first day of discussions will be focused on the impact of L’Art et la Matière. Prière de toucher, before opening conversations about universal accessibility, on the second day.

Study Days will be accessible on site or remotely. An URL will be shared on registration two weeks before the event.
