Benefits of FRAME

The FRench American Museum Exchange (FRAME) is a membership organization promoting cultural exchange in the context of museum collaborations between North American and French institutions. Since its inception in 1999, FRAME has fostered partnerships among its member museums on both sides of the Atlantic to develop scholarly exhibitions, innovative educational and public programs; to support professional exchanges among member museum staff; and to maintain a website that showcases the work of its members and reaches a global audience. It is a vibrant bilateral organization and the only one of its kind. It provides an exemplar for collaborative work and has an extensive network of intellectual resources on both sides of the Atlantic.

An International Network
As a member of FRAME, a museum will gain access to an international network that combines the skills, values and objectives shared by museum professionals in North America and in France. This network brings together hundreds of experts – directors, curators, museum educators, and other professionals – who together build the humanist and inclusive museum of the 21st century based on their complementary collections. With more than 2.5 million works of art held within the FRAME 32 member museum collections, FRAME serves as a catalyst for research and exhibitions. Exhibitions organized under the auspices of FRAME emphasize major or lesser-known aspects of art history and advance research at the highest scholarly level, which addresses a broad audience and revealing the cultures and shared sensibilities on both sides of the Atlantic through a series of widely acclaimed curatorial and educational projects and initiatives.

FRAME sponsors regular conferences and planning meetings and provides grants for the support of collaborative projects made between the institutions of the network. Membership in FRAME provides international exposure to the institutions of the consortium while contributing to the development of their internal strategy thanks to the richness of the transatlantic dialogue.

Membership of the FRAME network is by invitation from its Board of Directors, which recommends and submits the candidacy for a vote of the General Assembly of the network. Currently, FRAME has 32 member museums, 16 in France, and 16 in North America.
