FRAME is delighted to announce Catherine Chevillot, Senior Curator in charge of The Provenance Mission Project (Ministry of Culture in France), as keynote speaker for the 2024 FRAME annual conference in Nancy, France.
Chevillot holds a doctorate in contemporary art history with a specialization in sculpture. Dr. Chevillot began her distinguished career as the Deputy Director of the Musée de Grenoble from 1988 to 1990, before becoming the Curator of Sculpture at the Musée d’Orsay from 1990 to 1996. After her tenure at the Musée d’Orsay, she served as Curator at the Centre de Recherche et de Restauration des Musées de France (C2RMF) from 1999 to 2003. She then returned to the Musée d’Orsay, first as Head of Research from 2003 to 2008, and later as the Chief Curator for Sculpture. In 2012, Chevillot took on the role of Director of the Musée Rodin, where she oversaw a notable renovation of the Hôtel Biron, where the museum is located. Rodin himself created the original business model of the museum, which was based on selling original editions of bronzes. Chevillot successfully revised this business model and she conducted a thorough review of molds and subjects. She also developed the museum’s international links and collaborations, both in Europe and Asia. In March 2021, Chevillot was appointed President of the Cité de l’Architecture du Patrimoine, a position she held until the spring of 2024.
Dr. Chevillot possesses extensive operations experience throughout French national and regional museums, and has an expert understanding of the unique opportunities and challenges they face. She is also familiar with collection studies in general, as well as research, the creation of documentation and related publications, and she has launched reference databases (Public Monuments, Salons). With more than 35 years of experience in heritage policy development, Chevillot has played a pivotal role in leading and shaping acquisition strategies, and the implementation of significant measures to combat fraud and counterfeiting, particularly in her work at the Rodin Museum.
