{"id":3595,"date":"2021-04-23T16:56:44","date_gmt":"2021-04-23T20:56:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/framemuseums.org\/?p=3595"},"modified":"2022-12-12T13:21:39","modified_gmt":"2022-12-12T18:21:39","slug":"surrealism-in-american-art-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/framemuseums.org\/fr\/surrealism-in-american-art-2\/","title":{"rendered":"An American Season in France"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Mus\u00e9e d&#8217;Arts de Nantes, the Mus\u00e9e Fabre de Montpellier, the Mus\u00e9e des Beaux-Arts de Rennes, and the Centre de la Vieille Charit\u00e9 in Marseille will present three exhibitions and a symposium that together celebrate &#8220;An American Season in France.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The celebrated programs will begin with <em>United States of Abstraction: American Artists in France, 1946-1964 <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/framemuseums.org\/the-united-states-of-abstraction-american-artists-in-france-1946-1964\">[<\/a><em><a href=\"https:\/\/framemuseums.org\/the-united-states-of-abstraction-american-artists-in-france-1946-1964\">https:\/\/framemuseums.org\/the-united-states-of-abstraction-american-artists-in-france-1946-1964\/<\/a><\/em>], an exhibition held at the Mus\u00e9e d&#8217;Arts de Nantes from the re-opening of the museums in France to June 27 or July 18, 2021, and at the Mus\u00e9e Fabre de Montpellier from July 16 &#8211; October 17, 2021 (if the exhibition ends on June 27 in Nantes) or from August 5 to October 21 (if the exhibition ends on July 18 in Nantes).<\/p>\n<p>The second exhibition, <em>Stanley William Hayter and the World in an Atelier \u2013 Converging Stories of Surrealism and Abstraction, <\/em>[<em><a href=\"https:\/\/framemuseums.org\/stanley-william-hayters-atelier-17-towards-a-free-print\/\">https:\/\/framemuseums.org\/stanley-william-hayters-atelier-17-towards-a-free-print\/<\/a><\/em>], will be on view at the Mus\u00e9e des Beaux-Arts de Rennes from February 12 through May 3, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The Mus\u00e9es de Marseille will present the third exhibition in this series, <em>Surrealism in American Art, <\/em>[<em><a href=\"https:\/\/framemuseums.org\/surrealism-in-american-art\/\">https:\/\/framemuseums.org\/surrealism-in-american-art\/<\/a><\/em>],\u00a0at the Centre de la Vieille Charit\u00e9 in Marseille from May 11\u00a0 through September 26, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>In conjunction with these exhibitions, FRAME will host a virtual symposium about <em>Expanding and Redirecting Historical Research Related to Franco-American Artistic Relationships between 1918 and 1964 <\/em>on Friday, May 21st between 11 AM and 2 PM Eastern Standard Time. Colleagues from the Mus\u00e9e d&#8217;Arts de Nantes, the Mus\u00e9e Fabre de Montpellier, the Mus\u00e9e des Beaux-Arts de Rennes,Centre de la Vieille Charit\u00e9 in Marseille and the Institut National d&#8217;Histoire de l&#8217;Art will participate. The virtual symposium is free and open to all but pre-registration is.
